Insulate Your Garage Doors to Increase the Thermal Comfort of Your Garage

Friday 17 January 2014

Insulated garage doors keep the garage cooler in summers and warmer in winters. It can save you a lot on your electric bills. It can even affect the energy usage in other parts of your home, including the room, which is constructed just above the garage. So, if you want to enjoy the facilities that insulated garage doors provide, upgrade your garage door soon.

If you have an old wooden door and think its providing insulation; you are wrong! You should upgrade it. It's true that wood has insulating properties, but your old door would like a single sheet and that surely won't keep your garage as warm or cool as it should have had. It's estimated that 1/3rd of energy loss in a garage actually comes from the door. The insulated ones serve as an efficient barrier against these kind of energy loss. An insulation actually increases the efficiency level inside a garage with a minimum of thirty three percent.

The need of having insulated garage doors is more evident in attached garages. However, if you don't have an attached garage, don't think you don't need to do the insulation. If you have people working in your commercial garage, you should get it insulated. It is very beneficial for people who work in commercial garages. They can have a comfortable environment to work in. Even if it's your residential garage, you shouldn't think twice insulating it.Always remember that once you upgrade it, you will be able to work in your garage more comfortably. The extreme cold and hot temperatures won't affect you when you are there.

An insulated garage gate is basically a door, which includes a special insulating material in the cavities of door that's meant to help protect against the air intrusion. There are different kinds of special insulating materials, which can be used for garage doors. However, the most common ones are polyurethane and polystyrene. Polystyrene is hard slats, which are inserted into the cavities in the steel garage doors between outer and inner panels. Polyurethane on the other hand is a foam sprayed on the material to which it blonds and becomes an efficient barrier. This is considered to be the best material that provides a more effective insulation. You can also use fiberglass as your insulation material, but this material is not used so much like the other two.

So, don't wait anymore. If you really want to spend comfortably in your home or garage in the winters or summers, insulate your garage door first.
